Now collecting submissions for Offshoot, Issue 2.
Deadline: October 10, 2009
Theme:
"Basic Needs." What are the basic needs for societies or individuals? What things are absolutely necessary for life?
You can explore this topic any way you want; no interpretation is incorrect. Whether you align with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, think that happiness or personal beliefs are essential for survival, or would shrivel up and die without your iPod, I want to know about it.

These are the same for both art and writing (for details on specific types of entry, see headings below).
-Send submissions as attachments to offshootmag@gmail.com
-Please include your name, location (State, Country), and website.

Offshoot magazine, Issue 1, is here!
It is with the greatest of excitement that I announce that Offshoot is now on the internet!
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed; you have made this a pleasant project. Click here to view the magazine on issuu.com; you can also download the PDF there.
Please note: Though all submissions are appreciated, not all could be included for size reasons. Most of these non-included submissions were not submitted in proper format, including URLs submitted in lieu of actual images; if you wish to submit to Issue 2 (more details soon) please look at the submission guidelines carefully.
Copyrights: the copyrights of all images and writing belong to their original creators, and none of these images may be used in any way without prior consent from their authors. Offshoot bears no responsibility for copyright issues with the works included; all were submitted by participants as original works.

2 weeks left!
There are officially two weeks left until the submissions deadline. Instructions on how to submit stuff are on the first post. Make sure you get your art and writing in by then! I'm so excited by what everyone has sent me; this will be a great first issue.
We [that is, the call for entry] are also currently linked on PDF-Mags; a warm thanks for mentioning us!
And here's the current question about inspiration: Are you the type that "knows it when I see it" or do certain things tend to trigger your creative side? Whether it's runway fashion, debilitated buildings, or dog shows, I want to know about it!

There is now a Flickr group!
For those that haven't yet mastered the art of e-mailing attachments, you can now submit works via the Offshoot mag Flickr group. There will also be some discussion topics there to develop dialog among our contributors. Right now, this editor wants to know: What music inspires you to create? What do you like to listen to while drawing or writing or sculpting?
This is my list of music that inspires me:
1. Anything by Bright Eyes; Conor Oberst is a poet set to music.
2. the 10th anniversary "Les Miserables" soundtrack
2. anything Vedera or Regina Spektor
3. "Sushi" - Kyle Andrews
4. "The Competition" - Kimya Dawson
5. "Whatever You Like" - T.I.
6. "Please Don't Touch" - Polly Scattergood
7. "Nitrogen Pink" - Polly Scattergood
8. "Somewhere Out There" - Our Lady Peace
9. Taking Back Sunday's album "Where You Want To Be"
10. "20 Going On..." - Tsunami Bomb
11. Vampire Weekend's Self-titled album
12. the entire Ingrid Michaelson channel on pandora.com
Can't wait to hear what you guys have to say!

Issue 1: Call for entries
I am collecting art and writing from all over the internet for inclusion in a new PDF magazine called Offshoot. The purpose of the magazine is simply to showcase art for art's sake, made for joy or personal expression. Offshoot seeks to recognize that art is an extension of life, and vice versa.
Here's what I'm looking for:
Theme: pretty much themeless. Send me stuff that best represents you or your creative work. I just want to see what you do as a creative person, whether that's poems or comics or doodles or photos.
-up to 10 images (preferably 300dpi, 72dpi is okay) of photographs, drawings, design, paintings, etc. The bigger the image, the better.
-non-fiction or short stories, up to 2000 words; opinion pieces must still be timely a month or two from now.
-poetry, up to 10 poems per entrant
-Your submission e-mailed to offshootmag@gmail.com, along with your Name, State/Country, URL, and a sentence about yourself.
deadline: July 31, 2009
